Motorcycles and motor sport on two wheels is a passion, and it is no wonder if we as parents want to carry this passion and desire on to our kids.
My name is Thomas Ertmann, and I am the father of a son, and sincerely passionate about motorcycles.
I have had many good years on the motorcycle, as an active racer in Motorcross, Enduro, Trial and on Road Race track days.
When I was blessed enough to have a son, it was only natural that I wanted to share this passion with him.
I started early to explore how I could introduce him to motorcycles and the sport.
However, after countless evenings searching the web, I had to give up the idea of finding information on the subject. There was simply no literature on the experience of introducing very young children to motorcycles.
I then decided to work through my own “trial and error” method.
I am going to describe my experiences trough junior|moto, so that they might act as inspiration or basis for dialog for other like-minded.
Why so much on Trial?
Much of the material shared on junior|moto is Trial related.
I feel that Trial is a great way to introduce children to motorcycle sport, and motorcycles in general.
With low speed, a flat learning curve and an easy approach, Trial is eminent to create victories for new riders. At the same time Trial makes it easy to acquire the basic techniques on a motorcycle, regarding balance, handling, steering and braking.
It is important for me to clarify that I do not have “the one and only” truth on how to introduce motorcyclesm for kids. I only have the experience that has worked for us!
I am very open to dialogue – so if you have ideas, input, questions, or just an opinion, please contact me – I promise to get back to you!
Yours sincerely
Thomas Ertmann
